This 4,300 square foot custom home with a single story and a full basement serves as a 'guest house' for the adjacent property. All spaces open to the rear courtyard, creating an inner sanctum of privacy and quiet space. The exterior design takes its cues from the existing Mediterranean house next door, while the interior is infused with a more rigorous modern sensibility.
Special enhancements include a fully sound proofed basement and a high velocity, small diameter forced-air heating and cooling system. In keeping with the clients' and DMC's commitments to green building practices, non-toxic and green materials including recycled newspaper insulation, FSC-certified wood, flyash concrete and non-toxic finishes were used.
